Gingerbread House:

If you had left a paper trail,
I'm sure someone would have followed
With their bureaucratic briefcases
Ready to rescue you
With some form of unnecessary litigation
Blaming you for your own demise.

But, instead, you chose your alliance
With the beasts of the field
And the birds of the air
With your trail of bread crumbs
Stretched quietly behind you like small footprints
Following you on your way to some magical house.

If only you had kept the red tape
Like safety line
Wrapped tight around your dainty waists,
You wouldn't be confronted
With the awful truth
That you two are responsible
For the death a poor old lady
Attempting to make new friends,
Lonely in the middle of this dark forest.
